Overview

This excursion includes the most famous sights of Armavir region, which date from the Bronze Age to the beginning of the 20th century.
The first stop of the route is the Zvartnots Cathedral, after which you will visit the spiritual capital of Armenia, Echmiadzin. Then from Echmiadzin the route reaches the Metsamor archaeological site, which has a rich historical and cultural heritage dating back to the Bronze Age to the late Middle Ages. Here you will see phalluses from the 2nd millennium BC, a Bronze Age metallurgical complex built in the rocks. And in the Metsamor Museum, there is a gold ornament made about 5000 years ago, which is the oldest gold find in the Armenian Highlands. The last stop of the route is the Sardarapat memorial complex, which is one of the main symbols of the liberation struggle of the Armenian people.
In addition to the Metsamor Museum, the excursion also gives the opportunity to visit the of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzinand the Museum of Armenian Ethnography(Sardarapat).

Zvartnots Temple / The "temple of ruins" is listed as a UNESCO heritage site. It was the first circular 3 storey church built in the 7th century. After 3 centuries it was destroyed by an earthquake. Then Armenians started to built more stable rectangular based churches
Ejmiatsin Cathedral / Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church built in 301-303 AD. It is considered to be the oldest cathedral in the world and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO
Metsamor archaeological site and museum / Metsamor is one of the unique archaeological sites of the Near East. Among the rich heritage of Metsamor are phalluses from the 2nd millennium BC, a metallurgical complex from the Bronze Age and the oldest gold find in the Armenian Highlands.
Sardarapat memorial complex / The monument was built on the site of the Sardarapat battle. It is dedicated to the victory of the Armenian army over the Turkish army in 1918.
Armenian ethnography museum / State Museum of Armenian Ethnography and National Liberation Struggle. The museum is located on the territory of the Sardarapat memorial complex.
